5 Uses of the iPod Touch

"Darkstep" is an offshoot of drum and bass music that began to take shape at the end of the 1990s. Like other drum and bass subgenres, its musical characteristics include heavy use of sampled breakbeats and synthesized bass and the overall song structure and length is consistent with jungle and other drum and bass styles.

Tips for a Perfect Voice Over Recording Experience

Computers have changed the way many things are done today and the music industry is no exception. We are now able to simply download songs right from our computers and burn our own CDs instead of having to go to a music store to purchase it. Well, you can now produce instrumentals from your computer too without having to go to a recording studio. This eliminates the high cost of using many different musicians playing different instruments to achieve the sound you are looking for.

Arts and Entertainment from EzineArticles.com

January Jones' rise to stardom in Hollywood seems like a plot for a movie, even her name does not seem real. But she really was christened January Kristen Jones. The fact she was born on January 5th 1978 was just a coincidence, because she was actually named after a character in Jacqueline Susann's novel "Once is Not Enough" January Wayne.

Come Dancing How The Kinks Found A Smash Hit Out Of The Blue

Rockabilly music should maybe have never come into existence. After all, the music is a blend of country, blues, rhythm and blues, and gospel styles all mashed together to create a unique sound. And who would have ever thought to combine these varied styles, let alone thought that the resulting music might actually become popular and eventually be responsible for millions of record sales? Well, luckily for rockabilly and rock and roll fans, there were people back in the 1950s who were willing to do just that type of experimentation and they've left us a wonderfully rich musical legacy!

Rockabilly Bands Made A Big Sound With A Simple Gear Setup

Driving a car is one of the best times to listen to music. Many of us have the radio on or a CD playing to us from the moment we get in the car to the point we switch off the engine. And there's some good news if this describes you, as a recent study has suggested that drivers who sing along to songs are likely to concentrate more on their driving and feel less sleepy.

Songwriting Therapy 101: Using Music to Heal

Since it first hit the scene in the 1950s, rock and roll has taken many unexpected turns in style and substance. Along with those turns, the gear that rock bands used naturally had to change as well. In some cases, it was the development of new gear that spawned new forms of rock and roll. For instance, who in the 1950s could have predicted the way synthesized music and the instruments that create it would impact popular music? But rockabilly music started out simple and for the most part it remains simple today. And that simplicity requires relatively simple musical gear. Modern rockabilly cats might use a few more tricks to create their sound than the original pioneers did, but still the setup remains pretty simple.

Kevin Federline Victoria Prince Show Off Their Baby Bump

A week ago today we learned that unemployed baby-maker Kevin Federline and his former professional volleyball playing girlfriend Victoria Prince are expecting the birth of their first child together (tho the baby will be K-Fed‘s 5th child overall). Yesterday was a nice and very quiet day for David and me. I spent most of my late afternoon/evening reading and David spent his running around taking care of errands. We did leave the house for a bit last night to get a couple drinks and just hang out and ended up at one of our fave spots, The Hudson. Unfortunately, we were hoping for a quiet Monday night out … but we ended up being smack dab in the middle of a raucous crowd watching the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final.

The only seating open in the bar was underneath the big screen TV … so all the screaming bros were pointed at us. Their cheering and jeering was a bit disconcerting but it really didn’t take away from our hang out session. We managed to sneak off and find privacy in the photobooth for a bit, which was a nice way to end our night out. Oh and congrats to The University of Connecticut for their win last night … even if the game was kinda terrible.

No plans for tonight. I’m certain David and I will get out of the house eventually for food or something but as it stands, we don’t have anything on the books. Ah, it’s nice to have nothing to do … let me tell you ;)

Victoria Beckham Loses Her Cool While Parenting Her Kiddies

Victoria Beckham is ALWAYS the perfect picture of restraint and control but over the weekend at an LA Galaxy soccer match at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, her poshness lost her cool for a split second when her children — Brooklyn Joseph, Romeo James, Cruz David and BFF Ken Paves — forced her [...]

After our fun-filled day by the beach, Darion, his mom, David and I made our way to the AMC Theater at Century City to see Source Code. Now, I’ve had mixed feelings about the film from the very first time I saw the trailer a few months ago. On the one hand, the trailer didn’t make the film look all that good … on other hand, well, Jake Gyllenhaal is in it so …. you can see how I was torn. When I learned that Duncan Jones (David Bowie‘s son) directed it, I was sold. Overall, I liked Source Code very much … tho, for me, the ending left much to be desired.

I’ve heard some people say that Source Code reminds them of Inception and while I can see how some people can make that connection, I totally do not think the movies are all that similar. The storylines are totally different and there really isn’t all that much overlap thematically. In Source Code, we are are taken on a journey that tries to make us understand the concept of alternate realities and for the most part, I was on board with what the movie was trying to say … but the ending, I’m sorry, no I just didn’t buy it. I’ve watched my fair share of sci-fi programming that has given me a “working knowledge” of time travel, alternate realities, other dimensions etc. (and by “working knowledge” I mean, I’ve come to believe in a set of fictional rules that seem feasible to me if time travel, alternate realities, etc. actually existed). The ending of Source Code just did not work for me in the framework of my “working knowledge” of sci-fi temporal travel so … yeah, no, I didn’t like the ending. The rest of the movie, tho, I thought was inventive and entertaining. As much as I love Jakey poo, I felt he overacted a bit in some scenes but not enough to turn me off entirely. The support cast was fine but they were like background wallpaper … none of them really added anything to the story that stood out for me. I wish Source Code wasn’t a PG-13 film because the action felt a bit watered down. But, again, the inventiveness of the story, the twists and turns and overall plotline really entertained me. I don’t expect this film will do gangbusters at the box office but it’s worth seeing. If you miss it in theaters, you’ll be just fine seeing it on DVD or on cable.

Did any of y’all see Source Code this weekend? What did you think?

Yesterday afternoon David and I got to hang out with our dear friends Emma and Josh for lunch and arts & crafts … for real. We met up with the dynamic duo at Fred Segal for late lunch and then came back to our place to paint figurines that Josh picked out for us. Afterward, we made our way to The Abbey to celebrate Daron’s mom’s birthday with an impromptu costume fete. To say we had the best day ever would be an EXTREME understatement. Check out the fun photos below.

First up, here are some photos from our afternoon of arts & crafts:

To be honest, we all kinda gave Josh a hard time when he said he planned for us to do “arts & crafts” but by the time we were done, with marker stains on all of our hands, we had to admit that we had fun :)

Then it was time to party with Darion’s mom. Janai is truly one of my most favorite people on Earth! To party with her means you WILL have more fun that you ever thought imaginable. Each year, she tends to outdo the birthday party from the year before … and this year was no exception. We basically turned The Abbey into a costume shop … and an amazingly fun time was had by all:

This is but a small taste of the fun we had last night. I hope you’ll join me in sending all the Birthday Lurve we can muster for Darion’s mom today. She is a fabulous woman, one who is worthy of celebrating every day of the year.

This afternoon, David and I are meeting up with Darion and his mom for a more intimate lunch/hang-out session and then mebbe a movie later. I hope your weekend is going well … Happy Sunday!!

Why You Should Take Music Lessons

Would you like the opportunity to make beats like your favorite hip hop or rap star? If you would, then of course you need to choose a good quality beat program to help you achieve this. With so many beat makers to choose from it can be a bit challenging deciding which to use. This is especially true if you are new to making beat music.

Steel Drum Music At Your Wedding Ceremony

Dating back to 4,000 years ago, the guitar remains one of the oldest and most widely recognized musical instruments still played today. Wood is the main material used in guitar construction, and in most cases, exotic woods on the brink of extinction are used. But with increasing concerns about deforestation, the time has come to find more sustainable materials for constructing this all important musical instrument.

Justin Bieber: The Name of 17 Years Old Legend

If you are thinking about buying a guitar effects loop pedal you will already know that it records short passages played on a guitar and plays them back in a repeating loop. Did you also know that these loops of sound can be mixed together to create complex rhythms and harmonies from layers of simpler musical parts? A loop pedal is usually used as a backing track that you can play along with.

At the Brooklyn Museum: Tipis of the Brooklyn Plains by NF Karlins

Although the roots of Fantasy can be found far back in history, the literary genre itself has only been around for a relatively short period of time. Fantasy as we think of it started small and eventually blossomed through the hard work and contribution of many authors. Today, it has found its way into just about every medium you can imagine, the most popular of which are found in entertainment areas like movies and video games.

Depiction of Gender in Renaissance Art

First off the Ancient Egyptian civilization has fascinated me since I was a young child. I can proudly claim to have more books on this era of history than our local library, books authored by such specialists as Massy, Shaw or Redford. I will first identify and provide some information on the image in question. The bust in question is that of Queen Tiye of Egypt often referred to as the Cat Goddess. Queen Tiye was the mother of Akhenaten and Amenhotep IV. She was eventually to become the grandmother of one of ancient Egypt's most popular and most known pharaohs, King Tut.

Steinway Piano Bench Buyers Guide and Helpful Tips

On "Goodbye Lullaby," Lavigne's fourth studio album, she presents a slightly different energy. Although there are still the pop-punk sounds that have been the staples of her CDs, she also showcases a different, more mature sound. Essentially, Lavigne shows a little more in terms of her softer side while somehow still maintaining the rock vibe she has become synonymous with.

What Is Online Audio Mastering?

A helpful guide on choosing a piano bench to go with your Steinway piano. Steinway in fact does not make their own piano benches, and contracts out to Jansen & Son. Thus if you are looking for a Steinway piano bench, you are in fact looking for a Jansen piano bench. The most common and popular bench to place with a Steinway is the Jansen artist bench, which if you have seen a Steinway piano in a concert hall, this is the piano bench that accompanies it.

Apparently, they want their money back…now!

Mimran Schur Pictures, led by David Mimran and Jordan Schur, filed a lawsuit yesterday against Nu Image and Millennium Films because their flick Stone, starring Robert DeNiro, returned little to no profit, none of which they saw a penny of.

Welcome to independent film making!

The story goes that the newbie film financing company put up nearly $6 million in 2010 to bankroll this film. They believed in it that much and they assumed they would make that money back and then some. Unfortunately, the movie bombed on top of being sold to distributors for a less than desirable sum. Besides that, these guys were way down the list on getting their money back. First, the producers had to pay their loan back to Comericia Bank. Then, they had to pay their international sales agent 5% commission. But after that was all squared away, they would get taken care off.

But they day hasn't and probably won't ever come, so now, instead of waiting, they're suing for their investment back…and then some, claiming they were duped into the thinking the foreign distribution sale would more than make up their initial investment.

Sorry guys, but that is just how the Hollywood cookie crumbles. Your money is gone and if the movie didn't do well, its unlikely that they have that kind of dough to give anyway! Whoops!
